8 Week Mindfulness-Based

Stress Reduction (Group)

8 Week Mindfulness-Based

Cognitive Therapy (Group)

MBSR, or Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, is an eight week mindfulness and stress reduction program that was created by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. He initially created it for chronically ill patients who were not responding well to traditional treatments, but it is now used for a wide variety of reasons by thousands of people. MBSR demonstrably and repeatedly helped patients in those eight weeks and in some cases had proven effects up to four years later.

MBCT was developed for people with recurring episodes of depression or unhappiness, to prevent relapse. It has been proven effective in patients with major depressive disorder who have experienced at least three episodes of depression. Mindfulness-based relapse prevention may also be helpful for treating generalized anxiety disorders and addictions. MBCT has also been shown to improve symptoms of depression in some people with physical health conditions, such as vascular disease and traumatic brain injury.

Session (One on One)

You may have heard about the benefits of mindfulness in reducing stress and increasing resilience. It’s been quite a hot topic in the media and is being integrated into a wide variety of settings, including healthcare, K-12 schools, workplaces, professional sports teams, governmental agencies, the military, even prisons. In this introductions classes, I will guide you in practicing various types of mindfulness meditations and will show you how you can incorporate mindfulness into your daily life. This course will introduce new topics and practices in every class.

This private version of the MBSR course follows the same curriculum as the group course. It includes the same 9 sessions as in the group course, although these sessions are shorter in length due to the on-to-one format (no group discussions).  Sessions are scheduled at mutually convenient times.
